SmithBucklin’s “20 for 2018”

The following are 20 key TRENDS, ISSUES and DEVELOPMENTS that will impact associations in the coming year. While we don’t have a crystal ball, our people do get a first-hand look at what is affecting associations through the work they do alongside volunteer leaders, industry partners and their colleagues. Our “20 for 2018” is our opportunity to share what we’ve learned with you.

These thought pieces may reinforce or challenge opinions you already have, or they may provide new insights that will become top of mind. Either way, we hope that this forward-focused content will help encourage thinking, discussion and action that will matter for your organization.

Welcome

Matt Sanderson
President & CEO

Welcome

Welcome to the 2018 edition of Circuit, now in its 15th year of publication. One of the unique aspects of the work we do as a company is our ability to observe – and then share and discuss within our walls – the topics, strategies and opportunities that are common across organizations that serve different industries and professions. This allows us to stay current, and also creates value for our colleagues and the client organizations we serve.

The first section of this year’s Circuit, “20 for 2018,” captures the perspectives of both our colleagues and experts outside our company on 20 key trends, issues and developments that will impact associations in the coming year. Of course, Circuit also shares news and highlights about our company, which will celebrate its 70th year in 2019!

As we enter 2018, it is impossible not to note the growing intensity of political and social dialogue, and the disruptive forces (including technological innovations, and demographic and workforce shifts) that are testing and shaping industries and professions. We are also, through our work, continually reminded of the powerful and enduring forces of volunteerism, service and human connection. The strength of volunteer leadership and the partnerships between individuals are to be celebrated, nurtured and never underestimated.

On behalf of our entire team, I would like to wish you a successful 2018.
