Reinventing a Trade Show

North American Building Material Distribution Association (NBMDA)
A SmithBucklin client for over 10 years, NBMDA represents a network of building materials distributors and manufacturers dedicated to developing and promoting the effectiveness of distribution processes to improve member profitability and growth through education, networking and information exchange.

Challenge: NBMDA had a traditional trade show in a market crowded with similar events. It was increasingly difficult to distinguish this event from numerous other trade shows in a very competitive environment.

Solution: SmithBucklin changed the event into a table top exhibition specifically designed to provide vendors and company presidents a forum to efficiently meet and conduct meaningful business.

Results: Vendors are pleased that all of their time is spent with senior decision-makers, and members find the format very efficient for getting the information they need to make purchases. NBMDA has created a significant non-dues revenue source that is far less costly to manage than a full trade show. An ancillary benefit is that this event has proven to be an excellent source of new members.
