As SmithBucklin’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, Ellen Brislin is responsible for SmithBucklin’s corporate financial reporting and treasury functions. Ellen also has oversight of SmithBucklin’s Financial Management & Accounting Services, Information Technology Services and Corporate IT functions. She ensures that SmithBucklin’s financial systems provide the most timely and accurate financial data possible, and she works closely with units to provide the financial support they need to better serve the company’s client organizations.
Ellen first joined SmithBucklin in 1996 as a staff accountant in Financial Management & Accounting Services where she served more than 30 client organizations. In 2000, Ellen became a manager in Corporate Finance, overseeing the monthly financial close. In April 2002, Ellen left SmithBucklin to become the corporate accounting manager at Sara Lee Corporation, where she was responsible for the financial reporting for the Sara Lee corporate office and 40 other non-operating entities. She also worked on the implementation of new controls for Sarbanes-Oxley reporting requirements. In May 2005, Ellen returned to SmithBucklin as the director of Corporate Finance. In 2011 Ellen was promoted to Vice President of Corporate Finance and shortly thereafter, assumed the treasury management responsibilities for SmithBucklin. Ellen was promoted to Senior Vice President of Corporate Finance in 2015.
Since returning, Ellen has implemented a new time entry and billing system, HRIS and payroll system, and has worked to improve internal processes and controls. She managed the company’s payroll, corporate taxes, client billing and collections, as well as its relationships with banking institutions. She also served as a member of SmithBucklin’s due diligence team and has led the financial integration of the company’s acquisitions.
Ellen holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accountancy from the University of Notre Dame and is a Certified Public Accountant.
