As chief legal officer of SmithBucklin, Michael E. Silverman brings significant experience as a broad-based legal executive to direct the legal strategies and activities of the entire company, including all of its operational units and subsidiaries. Michael joined SmithBucklin in 2000, building and maintaining a valuable single-source legal office focused primarily on delivering business-minded legal support to the company.
His responsibilities include management of the legal components of all SmithBucklin client and vendor transactions, employment practices, intellectual property, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, corporate governance and dispute resolution. During the past six years, Michael has also assumed responsibilities in various areas of corporate operations, including serving as lead executive of two client service units. He oversees Promotional Products & Apparel, which serves as a strategic partner for the procurement of branded items that extend the marketing outreach of our clients and their corporate sponsors, and Affiliated Services, which acquires and redistributes affiliated products and services from third parties which are essential to the operations of SmithBucklin’s full-service clients. Michael also is responsible for various initiatives designed to drive consistency and efficiency in operations that stretch between the company’s internal units, and he manages all aspects of the company’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
Michael serves on the board of directors of The Children’s Place Association and the board of governors of The ESOP Association. He is also an active member in the American Corporate Counsel Association, the National Center for Employee Ownership, and the Employee-Owned S Corporations of America (ESCA). Prior to joining SmithBucklin, Michael was a litigation and transaction attorney in private practice at two law firms.
Michael holds a J.D., cum laude, from John Marshall Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois.
