SmithBucklin Acquires Inventures, Inc.

CHICAGO, Ill. & SAN RAMON, Calif., – May 14, 2013 – SmithBucklin announced today that it acquired Inventures, Inc., a pioneer in developing, launching, managing and growing industry alliances across the high-tech, clean/green energy and healthcare markets. These alliances help their members collaborate, accelerate innovation and realize commercial opportunities. The announcement was made by Henry Givray, president and CEO of SmithBucklin, and Deepak Kamlani, founder and CEO of Inventures.

Inventures will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of SmithBucklin as part of its Technology Industry Practice led by Carolyn Dolezal, executive vice president. Inventures retains its highly respected brand name and remains headquartered in San Ramon, Calif., with Kamlani continuing as president of Inventures. Kamlani will also become a member of SmithBucklin’s Corporate Management Team.

“In our 20 plus years, innovation via multi-stakeholder alliances has evolved from a curiosity to the norm in the technology sector,” said Kamlani. “Being part of SmithBucklin will help us both identify and execute many more opportunities to help such alliances achieve the results they desire, offer industry leading best practices, and deliver compelling new services to our clients to power their success.”

Inventures also builds collaborative ecosystems and helps them manage their lifecycles through a variety of successful technology and market development programs. Since its inception in 1992, the company has created and managed nearly 50 alliances and ecosystems – spanning the application and enterprise software, API, wired and wireless network, consumer electronics, web identity and authentication, and silicon industries.

“As the association management and services company that serves more technology associations than any other, we are excited to welcome Inventures to the SmithBucklin family,” Givray said. “Inventures’ proven experience, best practices and people, as well as its sophisticated collaboration platform and other services, help alliances quickly and efficiently achieve their goals.”

SmithBucklin has been providing value to leading technology-focused organizations for more than 30 years and is the only company in the world with a specialized technology user group practice. SmithBucklin’s Technology Industry Practice offers unparalleled skills, best practices and experience, as well as the industry’s most comprehensive resource base, to drive maximum benefits for its client organizations.

“Inventures’ expertise and experience is in great demand as collaboration becomes increasingly necessary in an era shaped by rapid innovation, global markets, and pervasive connectivity of people, devices and services.” said Dolezal. “This acquisition will enhance and strengthen both companies’ offerings as we continue to provide innovative services and solutions to technology-focused organizations.”
